According to a new study, the first complete ancient skeleton of a person with gigantism has been found near Rome.

In the third century A.D., when men averaged about 5 and a half feet (167 centimeters), the man would have been a giant at 6 feet, 8 inches (202 centimeters). Paradoxically, the present tallest man estimates 8 feet, 3 inches (251 centimeters).

Due to the extremely rare nature of gigantism, which only affects about three out of every million people worldwide, it is extremely difficult to find such skeletons. When abnormal growth is caused by a malfunctioning pituitary gland in childhood, the condition begins.
