The Accidental Mummy: When and Where Did Mummification Start?

The history of mummification has long been of interest, and the practice’s possible origins have been debated for some time. In the Gebelein desert, which is just south of Luxor, researchers discovered a possible explanation. Here, proof of Egypt’s earliest passing ceremonies was uncovered, recommending that the fantasies driving Egyptians to preserve their own bodies had roots that were a lot more established than the old development itself.

It was especially interesting to find a 5,400-year-old mummified body in the area because there were no signs of intentional mummification. All things being equal, it was accepted that the hot and dry desert sand had coincidentally saved the man’s body, featuring the way in which the Egyptians might have been propelled by regular mummies to foster the course of embalmment themselves. This theory is important because it sheds new light on how one of ancient Egypt’s most well-known practices came to be.
