I encountered Kai unexpectedly during a field trip on the outskirts of the city. There she sat alone at the entrance of a sewer, unable to move. Her eyes, filled with sadness, pleaded for help, as if saying, “Please don’t leave me alone.” Without hesitation, I sought a way to rescue this poor girl.
She cried incessantly in pain, and as I touched her, I could sense the unfortunate circumstances she had faced. We rushed her to the vet for examination and treatment. Kai was convulsing, unable to stand for even a minute.
Her condition was dire, requiring extensive treatment in the hope that she could walk or run again. On the first day, Kai was suspected of having measles and exhibited signs of tics. With a fever reaching 39.5 degrees and experiencing diarrhea, she underwent an MR test, fortunately revealing no brain problems. However, due to persistent tic symptoms causing pain, a PCR test was necessary, taking 5 to 6 days for results.
On the fifth day, the PCR results shocked us—there was a significant amount of contrast medium in her lungs. Heartlessly abandoned by her previous owner who knew of her condition, it seemed she might never return to being a normal dog. Yet, Kai displayed strength and a will to live, prompting me to find a way for her to live comfortably under my care and love.
By day 12, Kai continued to take anticonvulsants and acupuncture daily to reduce the frequency of seizures. Although symptoms appeared to worsen, she ate well, her intestines were fine, and signs of improvement emerged during therapy treatments.
Day 30 brought positive changes—Kai ate heartily, grew stronger, and showed determination in completing exercises. Two of her four legs began to function better, offering a glimmer of hope for her rehabilitation.
On day 35, Kai and I immersed ourselves in a herbal bath for both treatment and relaxation. By day 45, the resilient Kai fought hard to live, surprising everyone with her strength. I envisioned the day she would run toward me on all four legs, a moment that arrived sooner than expected.
Kai has proven herself a true fighter, willing to overcome any obstacle for a chance at a happy life. I am proud of you, my little princess Kai. You deserve the happiness that any normal dog does. I love you!
