Regrettably, some people lack the knowledge of how to properly care for their pets and fail to recognize that these creatures have emotions too. This was the unfortunate reality for a small dog named Koki.
The poor canine had suffered abuse at the hands of his owners and was abandoned to fend for himself on the harsh streets during the bitter winter. Fortunately, fate led him to encounter the right person. While on his way to a grocery store, Stoyan chanced upon the yellow dog, limping helplessly with an injured leg amidst heavy snowfall. Seeing the dog in such dire straits, the compassionate man couldn’t turn away.
Stoyan and his wife Dessy promptly wrapped the shivering dog in a blanket to shield him from the freezing cold. Taking the dog under their wing, they named him Koki.
“The weather was freezing, and we wanted to help,” Stoyan shared on their Youtube channel, PawMeow. This act wasn’t their first rescue of stray animals; the couple had previously saved four cats in Bulgaria and remained dedicated to aiding more.
Although the couple focused on rescuing cats, they couldn’t abandon the little dog. It was evident that without their intervention, Koki had slim chances of surviving the cold.
Koki seemed to carry the weight of a troubling past and harbored distrust toward humans. He resisted any attempts from Dessy and Stoyan to assist him, refusing any touch to his injured leg.
However, everything changed when the couple offered Koki a sausage that he couldn’t resist.
“I think that was the moment he understood we meant him no harm,” Stoyan recounted. “His eyes were brimming with hope.”
Finally, Koki’s torment came to an end as he found his forever home. While Dessy and Stoyan cared for Koki, they simultaneously searched for a suitable home for the little dog.
“We shared the dog’s story on social media in our country and were astonished by the overwhelming interest,” the couple shared enthusiastically. “We received over 30 adoption requests. After careful consideration, we selected a Russian woman who lives 200 km away in a home with another small breed dog.”
Thanks to these compassionate individuals, Koki can once again relish life.
