Newborn Albino Puppy Had Very Little Chance To Survive But His Rescuers Were Not Giving Up

Some dogs just never get a fighting chance. As a result of irresponsible breeding, many furballs end up being kicked out on the street, and they usually don’t make it.

One such case comes from California, where a litter of puppies was thrown away by a backyard breeder.

When a woman got a call about a puppy that was no older than 3 days, she immediately stopped in her tracks. The entire litter was literally hanging on to their last breaths, and they needed help – urgently!

Clanay Reza, a giant-hearted animal lover and an independent rescuer from California, got a call from a breeder’s neighbor who asked her if she could help.

At the time, there was a whole litter of puppies fending for themselves under their deceased mother who bled to death. Among them, Lucky was the weakest. He was no bigger than a baby hamster.

Even though he was given zero chance to survive, Reza never gave up on him. She literally fed him with a formula every twenty minutes, and she barely slept through the first couple of days.

“I never knew if tomorrow was promised for him. Lucky’s first 8 weeks of life I hardly ever slept. I would stay up watching him making sure he was still alive and breathing,” Clanay wrote on Instagram.

Sadly, Lucky’s other siblings didn’t make it, and now he was the only one with a fighting chance.

After weeks of constant battle, Lucky’s life was no longer in danger, but he still had a lot of ongoing health issues. As his eyes started to open, he was diagnosed with yeast infection and corneal ulcer, and he had one eye removed.

“We found out he was blind from one eye and actually had a puncture in his eye and a corneal ulcer. As he got older the ulcer and puncture grew and started causing him pain so at 4 months old we removed his eye,” says Clanay.

At ten weeks of age, Lucky was diagnosed with a condition called albinism. According to his mom, his albinism was the result of a recessive gene, caused by inbreeding.

During the first year, his life was nothing but an uphill battle. He lost his siblings and his mom, and he had a lot of bumps on the road, but he has never, ever lost his will to live!

“He’s had a rollercoaster of a life his first year but I am thankful for all the bumps in the road we had with him. They just made my love for him grow stronger,” wrote Clanay.
