The National Corvette Museum will suspend assembly plant tours starting in February for an unspecified amount of time.

“Due to manufacturing advancements, tours offered by the National Corvette Museum of GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant will be suspended beginning Monday, February 5, 2024,” the announcement says.

Mariah Hughes, the museum’s media relations and marketing production manager, told Road & Track that “The National Corvette Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and not affiliated with General Motors. At this time, we do not yet have a date for plant tours to resume.”

The Corvette plant guided tours typically last about an hour and a half. During that time, you are treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the entire Corvette assembly process. Why would GM suspend this access?

There is no official word, so we have to speculate a bit. The new ZR1 has been spotted testing, but there has been no official reveal yet. It’s possible GM could be doing some pilot builds beginning in February and they don’t want the public to get this type of in-depth look at the car and the build process before it is ready.

Similarly, it is likely that the 2025 model year Corvette will receive some notable changes. GM could put some of these changes in place early next year for testing purposes. And again, the company would not want the public to see everything until GM is ready for the official release.

For the time being, the only concrete information we have is that the last day you will be able to take the Bowling Green plant tour will be Friday, February 2, 2024. So, if you have always wanted to take the tour, we suggest you book it soon.
