Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was forced to highlight a lack of questions on Jeremy Doku, when an update on the Belgian was recently requested by the media.
The speedy forward has been a refreshing addition to Manchester City’s front-line during the first-half of the new season, having joined the club from French side Stade Rennais in the most recent summer transfer window.
Jeremy Doku’s ability to beat opposing defender’s one-vs-one with ease has added a different dimension to the array of talents on offer in City’s attack, and ensuring a range of options at the disposal of manager Pep Guardiola.
However, despite a blistering and somewhat unstoppable start to life with the Premier League champions, a withdrawal from action during the 3-3 draw against Tottenham last month has left the youngster out of the matchday squad for a prolonged period.
Speaking during a recent press conference, after Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Sheffield United in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola was asked for an update on the fitness and injury of Jeremy Doku ahead of a crunch phase of the ongoing campaign.
“Yeah, nobody asked me about Jeremy (Doku), just Kevin (De Bruyne) and Erling (Haaland), Kevin and Erling, Kevin and Erling,” Pep Guardiola responded.
“It’s soon. Soon I think he’s back,” the Manchester City manager continued. “They (medical staff) are a bit cautious because he’s so explosive, one-against-one, and muscular, but I think for the next weeks he will be ready, I hope so.”
Manchester City take on Huddersfield Town in the Emirates FA Cup third round at the Etihad Stadium this weekend, before travelling to St James’ Park for a meeting with Newcastle United in the Premier League.
City officials may deem it necessary to avoid rushing Doku back for either of the upcoming matches, instead allowing for a greater rest period and bringing the player back up to speed during their warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi later this month.
City will return to action following the Premier League’s winter break with their reverse fixture against Burnley at the Etihad Stadium, as they hope to put together a run of form that will put them in a commanding position for a fourth successive English top-flight crown.
