Actors from the MCU’s Thor and Zeus Get Rival Over Love & Thunder

Chris Hemsworth and Russell Crowe get competitive about what happened between their characters Thor and Zeus, respectively, in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Who is in the Secret Invasion cast?

Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth and Russell Crowe playfully comment on the movie’s surprising Thor and Zeus scene. Thor’s journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had focused primarily on his Asgardian god cohorts, up until the release of 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. The latest Thor movie introduced a wide breadth of different gods to the MCU, and Crowe’s Zeus was shown as their leader.

Crowe snarkily answered Hemsworth on Twitter, following the Thor actor remembering that his character almost killed Crowe’s Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder.

The exchange started with Hemsworth commenting on a video of Brett Goldstein, who played Hercules in the movie’s mid-credits scene, discussing his MCU debut. The Hercules introduction scene revealed that Zeus managed to survive getting hit in the chest by his own Thunderbolt — thrown at him by Thor — and decided to send his son Hercules after the Avenger to get revenge.

Thor: Love and Thunder‘s mid-credits scene showed a recovering Zeus, monologuing about how the people have forgotten to worship the gods, instead looking up to superheroes. Zeus then says, “They will fear us again, when Thor Odinson falls from the sky,” and it is revealed he is speaking directly to his son — Hercules. The scene makes it clear that Goldstein’s character is set to embark on a search for the Asgardian god, with a Thor vs Hercules fight set to happen when they meet.

Hercules will be hoping to teach the Asgardian god a lesson for messing with his father whenever he catches up to Thor. However, chances are the vendetta should not last long. The MCU has presented superheroes at odds with each other when they first meet, such as Thor himself battling Iron Man in The Avengers. While Hercules will be out for Thor’s blood the moment they meet, there should not be a movie-long story where both characters stand on opposite sides. The first Hercules and Thor fight must have no winner, showing both powerful heroes that a fight between them is useless, and giving them a chance to talk it out.

Hercules being part of the Avengers in the pages of Marvel Comics is evidence enough that Goldstein’s version of the Greek hero is here to stay, with a bigger path than just a Thor fight in the probable Thor 5. Hercules’ actor, Goldstein, rose to fame playing the popular character Roy Kent in the award-winning comedy series Ted Lasso. Roy Kent is known for his gruff attitude and brooding personality — a stark contrast from Hemsworth’s sunny Thor — which appeared to be the way Hercules will at least start in the MCU. With Thor lasting a little longer in the MCU, both characters could establish an endearing dynamic, pivoting away from the clash set up by Thor: Love and Thunder.
