While strolling near the shore, two Brazilian tourists were “heartbroken” to see the unusual bone bits.
The incident occurred over the weekend on a sandbar near Ilha Comprida, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Leticia Gomes Santiago and her boyfriend Devanir Souza, two Brazilian vacationers, were surprised to find unusual bones washed up in the sea as they were strolling by the beach.
It was described as being a huge hand with long, bony fingers. To notice its enormous size, the pair took their sandals and put them next to their long, bony fingers.
“What kind of animal bones they are is unclear. They are as large as extraterrestrials,” Leticia Gomes Santiago claimed.
When the two spoke with the locals, no one could identify the species to which these peculiar bones belonged. They even made light of the fact that it resembled a dinosaur bone or perhaps a mermaid’s hand.
Marine researcher Eric Comin, however, claimed that the strange-looking “hand” belonged to an aquatic creature, possibly a whale or dolphin. Images of the creature’s decay taken on the spot indicate that it passed away roughly 18 months ago.
The expert further advised anyone who finds an animal carcass on the beach to report it to the Institut de Cananéia (IPEC), the local environmental organization.
To avoid disrupting the ecosystem’s nutrition cycle, we always prefer to leave the skeletons on the shore. Experts will be able to determine the reason of any additional animal deaths by gathering samples for analysis, said IPEC spokesperson Henrique Chupill.
Mark D. Scherz, assistant professor of vertebrate zoology and curator of reptile studies at the Statens Naturhistoriske museum in Denmark, claims that he has previously dissected a whale carcass that washed up on the shore in 2021. The “bizarre hand” emerged out of nowhere and pulled out all the flesh.
