A series of incidents involving the purported capture of extraterrestrial creatures by the Brazilian military occurred in the city of Varginha in January 1996. The incident came to light after claims of a humanoid entity seen on January 20th in a vacant lot surfaced. After learning about this sighting, Ubirajara Rodrigues, a lawyer and UFO researcher, started the inquiry. Vitorio Pacaccini, a seasoned ufologist, eventually joined him. On the afternoon of January 20, three young women saw a bizarre thing in the empty lot, which caused them to run away in terror. As the investigation continued, it came to light that military police had earlier that day captured a creature in the surrounding forests. Later reports mentioned seeing military and strange activity nearby. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire, seeing armed soldiers, and seeing corpse bags being moved.
In the months that followed, there were numerous other sightings, including accounts of odd animals close to a zoo, a zoo, and a motorway. Witnesses described their interactions with these enigmatic creatures. A witness claimed to have seen a ufo crash near Varginha in early January during these events.
Brazil and other countries were interested in the case. Researchers traveled to Varginha in august 1997 to collect additional data.
They spoke with witnesses and looked at numerous sites where the events may have occurred. The initial sightings’ location in the woods, reported landing sites, and desiccated insects found by Spanish ufologist J.J. Benitez were among the main topics of interest.
Despite debates and divergent viewpoints, the Varginha incident continues to be a well-known and hotly contested case in ufology. The city of Varginha, which is located in a region of Brazil with a rich history and a variety of industries, came to be known as a center for conspiracy theories about government cover-ups and extraterrestrial encounters.
