The Truth Behind the Viral “Kanye West Yeezy Cybertruck” Rumors

Recently, a video claiming to showcase Kanye West‘s new Yeezy Cybertruck has gone viral on social media platforms like TikTok and X. The video features a peculiar-looking vehicle with a futuristic design, moving slowly against the backdrop of the Peterson Automotive Museum. The text on the screen reads, “Kanye previews his new Yeezy Cybertruck going for $1.2 million, only three made in the US,” sparking widespread interest and speculation.

The video quickly garnered attention, with many viewers convinced that Kanye West had expanded his Yeezy brand into the automotive industry. The vehicle, all black with an unconventional shape, prompted mixed reactions. Some found it innovative, while others labeled it as “trash.” The caption, “Kanye West – Yeezy Cybertruck, Fire or Trash?” further fueled the debate.

Despite the hype, it turns out that neither Kanye West nor his Yeezy brand had anything to do with the car’s creation. The vehicle in question is actually the Lo-Res Car, a conceptual design by United Nude, a footwear brand. The car was developed by the creative director and founder of United Nude, Rem D. Koolhaas, and was sold for over $100,000 at a Bring a Trailer auction in 2021.

The Lo-Res Car was inspired by the iconic Lamborghini Countach, designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone in the early 1970s. United Nude explained, “The Lo Res Car shape came from lowering the 3D resolution of the iconic Lamborghini Countach.” This design process, known as the Lo Res Project, involves redesigning an object in a series, each time lowering the 3D resolution, resulting in a more fragmented and abstract design.

The vehicle’s unconventional shape and design are a result of this unique approach. The Lo-Res Car can only drive up to 50 kilometers per hour and is not street legal, as making it so would have compromised its experimental and radical design.

The surge in popularity of the Lo-Res Car due to speculation about a collaboration between Tesla and Yeezy prompted social media platforms to address the misinformation. A post on X clarified the situation, stating, “This vehicle is not a Tesla Cybertruck, and it also isn’t affiliated with Kanye West or his company Yeezy.”

The viral video prompted a wide range of reactions on social media. Many users commented on the car’s unusual design, with some likening it to a “glass coffin.” The curiosity and confusion surrounding the vehicle’s origins highlight the power of social media in spreading both information and misinformation.

The viral video of the so-called Yeezy Cybertruck is a fascinating example of how easily misinformation can spread online. The Lo-Res Car, with its innovative design and conceptual origins, is an intriguing vehicle in its own right, but it has no connection to Kanye West or his Yeezy brand. As the true story behind the Lo-Res Car comes to light, it serves as a reminder to verify information before jumping to conclusions based on social media posts.
