In November 2017, Shey, a 14-year-old miniature poodle, faced the daunting reality of being surrendered to the Animal Rescue League because his family was relocating and couldn’t take him along. Despite enduring unique challenges such as dental disease, deafness, partial blindness, and being nearly toothless, Shey patiently waited for someone to choose him during his four months at the shelter.

The odds took a heartwarming turn one evening when a young boy named Tristan and his mom visited the shelter in search of a small dog that loved cuddles. Recognizing Shey’s sweetness and desire to be close to people, the shelter staff knew they had found the perfect match. Tristan, displaying remarkable maturity, listened attentively to Shey’s special needs and demonstrated a deep respect for his capabilities and limitations.

During the adoption process, Tristan’s responsible approach shone through as he diligently noted down future vaccination dates for Shey and shared details about a special spot in his room prepared for the senior pup. Tristan’s thoughtful questions and genuine care for Shey impressed the shelter staff, making the decision to adopt a senior dog an easy one.

Now, Shey enjoys a loving family that adores him for the sweet pup he is, ensuring he never experiences abandonment again. Tristan showers Shey with love and attention, meeting all of his needs. In his new forever home, Shey wakes up every day feeling happy and safe, with cuddling being his favorite thing in the world.
